Like a huge, buzzing insect, La Tène moves somewhere between the psychedelic and the primitive, the minimalist and the overwhelming. With cabrette and bagpipes, percussion, harmonium and electronics, the Franco-Swiss sextet creates music that feels both ancient and futuristic at the same time. Come and surrender to a droning, trance-inducing sonic embrace when La Tène play at ALICE, presented in collaboration with Final Descent. First as a trio and now as a sextet, they have released four albums, which leading publications such as The Quietus and The Wire have highlighted as some of the best of the year. Through a long series of collaborations, the group has also repeatedly explored the fissures between old musical traditions and modern experimentation. La Tène’s music is built on repetition as a kind of driving force, where small musical movements are repeated, shifted and amplified until they take on an almost physical power. In their sound, the roughness of wood and metal meets electronic textures and layers of dub, whilst the mechanical pulse of the machines intertwines with the organic breath of the harmonium. With cabrette and bagpipes, guitar, bass, drums, harmonium and electronics, La Tène create music that feels both ancient and futuristic at the same time. La Tène are renowned for their live concerts, where long, repetitive tracks slowly unfold and take shape as living sonic creatures. This November, you can experience the sextet live as they perform material from their last three albums in a rare and intense listening experience.
